Working under the guidance of the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Summer Team Lead plays a key role in coordinating and leading our summer staff team. This position is all about supporting, motivating, and guiding the team to deliver fun, engaging, and well-run Summer Recreation programs. It’s a highly creative role and a great fit for an emerging leader who enjoys taking initiative, paying attention to details, and being accountable for their work. The position includes helping deliver our core summer programs—physical, social, cultural, and creative activities—along with special programs developed in collaboration with community partners.

Community Development and Programming
- Develop and maintain a positive image when dealing with community members and the public.
- Ensure all activities and programming encourages and facilitates an environment of respect, equality, and openness.
- Ensure all events are inclusive by considering children and youth, seniors, persons with physical or mental disabilities, newcomers, 2SLGBTQI+, and visible minority groups.
- Facilitate summer programs and events for children, seniors, adults, and families, including:
- Pre-Event Planning: Vendor & venue management, transportation, and overall project management.
- Volunteer & staff coordination (including guidance and leadership on responsibilities and schedules).
- Managing registrations for events and activities (tracking & managing registrations, funds, and participants)
- Preparing locations prior to activities, including equipment transport and site safety checks.
- Guiding and animating programs, creating engaging experiences for participants
- Ensuring post-event process is followed, including proper site clean up and event reporting.
- Providing First Aid assistance if needed
- Manage safekeeping of cash received, count, and verify totals, and prepare receipts as needed.
- Provide program information when required.
Team Management
- Lead the recreation staff to create engaging and appealing activities for the summer program calendar.
- Participate in daily check-ins with Recreation Manager and other team leaders.
- Plan and facilitate weekly staff meetings, review schedules, communicate priorities and expectations.
- Prepare for summer staff by managing the office space, uniforms, and team building activity.
- Manage the equipment storage and inventory according to proper process.
- Review and submit receipts, mileage claims and time in lieu charts
- Prepare and participate in staff evaluations and reporting.
- Ensure adequate office and activity staffing.
- Take on higher role of leadership and responsibility in the absence of the Recreation Manager and Program Manager.
Marketing & Digital Skills
- Preparation of print and digital medias to communicate programming with the community (Newsletters, posters, social media, radio) using provided programs according to marketing guidelines.
- Preparing of activity material and handouts as needed, in both digital and physical formats.
- Collect appropriate images and videos of various Recreation Services' events and programs to be used for future marketing purposes.
- Use recreation management and project management software according to training provided, as well as Microsoft office programs.
- Use creative skills to manage creative projects such as building parade floats, creating costumes, props, and games.
Position Requirements
- Bilingual (English and French)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Able to pass a vulnerable persons check and lift 23kg safely.
- Be certified for First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Safety, or be willing to receive certification.
- Ability to work a variety of shift times and hours including evenings and weekends as required.
- Ability to work during July 1st (Canada Day) August 1st, and August 15th (Acadian Day)
- Hold a valid Class 5 Driver's License and personal vehicle
- Previous work experience in leadership required, experience in recreation, events, or coordination preferred, but alternative experiences are encouraged to apply.
