If you are enthusiastic about providing children with the opportunity to attend an engaging and memorable camp, then join the Municipality of Clare’s Recreation Services as we gear up for another summer running Southwest Nova Scotia’s only bilingual day camp. Once run by the CJA (Colonie de la Jeunesse Acadienne), we keep its spirit alive by providing dynamic programming to children ages 5 to 12 in Clare. Your role as our Camp Leader is to ensure all camp activities run smoothly and share your positive energy with campers to ensure a memorable and exciting summer.
Animation & Community Development
- Facilitate informative activities, games, and outings for all children in a safe and engaging environment.
- Provide support for campers to form connections and relationships with other campers with confidence.
- Consistently look for opportunities to provide campers with new skills, hobbies, and interests.
- Ensuring all program materials and supplies are cared for, organized, and cleaned up properly after each activity.
- Provide First Aid to any children if needed, and submitting incident reports.
- To ensure the mental and physical safety of all the children in your care.
- Provide services, animation, and answer questions in French and English (oral and written).
- Engage with campers to ensure they’re creating lasting memories and having a positive experience.
Leadership
- Taking ownership of the success of planned activities and outings including animation, monitoring, and cleanup.
- Being responsible for the safety and security of the children in your care during activities, meals, outings, and transportation.
- Managing child pickup and drop off according to procedure (Taking attendance, confirmed pickup person, etc.)
- Constant ownership of the safety of the environment (outside, pool safety, etc.) where campers are.
- Take attendance at the beginning, during, and end of each activity.
- Motivate campers to try new skills, forge new friendships, and grow their minds and bodies in a healthy way.
- Lead by example in creating a positive, loving environment that shows kindness in action- building an environment of respect, equality, and welcome for all genders, abilities, birthplaces, pigments, and identities.
Teamwork
- Participate in team meetings, check-ins, and teambuilding sessions.
- Plan, supervise, and hold self and coworkers accountable to an inclusive and safe environment for all abilities, gender identities, and ethnicities.
- Be adaptable and flexible to ensure that all department needs and tasks are being accomplished.
- Ensure all venues and spaces are both set up and cleaned up properly every time.
- Support team members in the execution of activities and animation- ensuring all team members are supported and the department goals are being met.
- Be in constant communication with fellow camp monitors to ensure camper safety
Position Requirements
- Bilingual (English and French)
- Experience working with children
- Be at least 16 years of age at the time of application.
- Ability to work during Canada Day (July 1), and for the full posted period.
- Able to pass a vulnerable persons check and lift 23kg safely.
- Be certified in First Aid or willing to receive certification as part of training.
- Reliable transportation to and from your scheduled shifts
Preference may be given to those continuing their career in education, or community development.
