With the Easter long weekend approaching and with the confirmation of community spread of the COVID-19 virus in Nova Scotia, the Municipality of Clare strongly discourages the residents of Clare and of neighbouring communities from participating in this year’s Canoe Trip social gathering event. Taking part in this activity would no doubt create an unnecessary and dangerous risk to the general public while the province is under a state of emergency.
Residents are reminded that under the Province of Nova Scotia’s Authority of the Health Protection Act, there are to be no social gatherings of more than 5 people. Nova Scotians are required to practise social distancing by staying 2 metres apart to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Police are authorized to enforce orders under the Health Protection Act and issue fines when warranted. Multiple fines can be given each day an individual fails to comply. These measures have been put in place to keep our community safe.
While the Municipality acknowledges the strong attachment that some may have to this annual event, the health and safety of all residents is far more important. There are currently no vaccines available to protect you against COVID-19. We strongly encourage the community to practise an abundance of caution and common sense during this time to limit the spread of this virus.
