Little Brook, NS – December 1, 2020: For the third year in a row, the Municipality of Clare is launching its Season of Giving campaign to collect donations for local charitable organizations. Residents and businesses in Clare are once again encouraged to show their valued generosity by dropping off non-perishable food items, toiletries, or new toys, or by organizing a donation drive.

Additionally, in lieu of a holiday party, staff and Council for the Municipality of Clare have chosen to donate to community charities. The Clare Food Bank in the Sacré Coeur Parish Hall in Saulnierville and Les papas Noël de Clare will each receive a $750 donation.

“With the logistical challenges for a group of our size to meet in one place while respecting COVID-19 guidelines, it was felt that foregoing this year’s staff party was the best—and safest—option,” notes Stéphane Cyr, Chief Administrative Officer for the Municipality of Clare. “Meanwhile, we hope that these donations can help reduce the strain on our friends and neighbours as we enter this unique holiday season.”

While food insecurity is a struggle in any given year, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to additional challenges for families in need. According to recent statistics from Feed Nova Scotia, 1 million kilograms of food were distributed to its 141-member food banks and meal programs provincewide, up 15% from the same period last year. The community of Clare is not untouched by these numbers. Once again, food donations and toiletries will be brought to the Clare Food Bank, while toy donations will be brought to Les papas Noël de Clare.

Unless otherwise instructed by public health authorities, residents are invited to drop off their donations at the Municipal Office (1185 Highway 1, Little Brook) Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. until Thursday, December 17, 2020.
