Join the Municipality of Clare’s Recreation Services team and help plan and deliver the only bilingual day camp in southwest Nova Scotia—an experience that’s fun, engaging, and unforgettable for kids.
Originally run by the CJA (Colonie de la Jeunesse Acadienne), this camp proudly carries on its spirit by offering dynamic programming for children ages 5 to 11 across Clare. As the Camp Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in bringing activities to life, thoughtfully planning each day with creativity and care to ensure every camper has a memorable and meaningful summer.
Administration & Planning
- Managing registrations and following up with registrants on payments and information.
- Creating Activity and lesson plans for camp activities and outings
- Ensure all materials, communications, and camp programming is done in both official languages.
- Filling out daily and weekly reports for review by Recreation Manager.
- Provide First Aid to any children if needed, including corresponding incident reports.
- Visit local schools to present Day Camp programming & answer questions.
Communication
- Develop and maintain a positive image in relations with the public.
- Ensure open, clear communication with parents of camp participant and act as the point of contact for all questions related to camp operations.
- Inform the Recreation Manager of any incidents, potential issues, or problems to work together to solve them as quickly and efficiently as possible.
- Communicate with vendors and partners to ensure the planned activities progress as expected.
- Capturing appropriate photo and video content for use in department marketing efforts.
Leadership & Team Management
- Be responsible for the leadership, guidance, and scheduling of camp monitors and the Jeune Moniteur program.
- Prepare office space, uniforms, and team building activity for staff.
- Participate in daily check-ins with the Recreation Manager and other team leaders.
- Submit receipts, mileage claims, and timesheets according to process in a timely manner.
- Provide guidance and instruction to staff members with clear expectations.
- Prepare and participate in staff evaluations and reporting
- Provide clearly laid out processes and procedures, daily expectations, and reference sheets to staff.
- Plan, supervise, and hold self and team accountable to an inclusive and safe environment for all abilities, gender identities, and ethnicities.
Animation & Community Development
- Function as a Camp Monitor when necessary, providing safe supervision of campers.
- Lead activities with campers in both languages.
- Be Present when needed for larger activities, to support any staff absences, and ensure all children can participate safely in an environment of respect, equity, and openness.
- Gather supplies, materials, and purchase necessary equipment for successful camp activities.
- Develop and maintain a positive image when dealing with guardians, campers, coworkers, and the public
- All other related tasks and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Recreation Manager.
Position Requirements
- Bilingual (English and French)
- Experience in coordination, team management, or education.
- Ability to work during Canada Day (July 1), and for the full posted period.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Able to pass a vulnerable persons check.
- Must have a valid class 5 license and reliable access to a vehicle.
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of hiring.
- Be certified in First Aid or willing to receive certification as part of training.
Preference may be given to those continuing their career in Education, Recreation, or Community Development.
