As a member of the Clare Recreation Services team within the Community Development department, the Summer Activity Coordinator helps bring events and activities to life throughout Clare. This role supports a wide range of summer programs, including physical, social, cultural, and creative activities, as well as special programs delivered in partnership with community groups.If you love being outdoors, enjoy creating memorable experiences, and want to be hands-on in your community, this could be a great fit for you! Event Management

  • Assist in booking locations and facilities as needed
  • Coordinate with vendors, presenters, facilitators, and transportation providers
  • Assist in the Project Management needs of the department
  • Prepare reports & task lists, manage registrations, and communicate with participants
  • Preparing event kits with all supplies and tools needed
  • Build parade floats, activity equipment, and other small building projects under supervision
  • Supporting all event planning tasks as needed by the Recreation Manager
  • Collect appropriate images and videos of various Recreation Services' events and programs to be used for future marketing purposes.

Program Administration  

  • Assist in the planning, execution, animation, and cleanup of activities and events
  • Manage safekeeping of cash received, count and verify totals, and prepare deposits.
  • Process registrations for all Recreation Services activities when needed and manage registrant details and communication by phone, email, or in person.
  • Distribute information on programs when required in oral or written formats.
  • Ensure all events are inclusive by considering children and youth, seniors, persons with physical or mental disabilities, newcomers, 2SLGBTQI+, and visible minority groups.

Teamwork

  • Foster respect, equality, and openness in the workplace and events.
  • Engage in team building, meetings, goal setting, and skill development.
  • Communicate clearly in person, in writing, and via project management tools.
  • Partner with community groups to create impactful programs.
  • Assist teammates in executing activities and achieving department goals.
  • After orientation, specialize in a skill like marketing or equipment management.

Position Requirements

  • Bilingual (English and French)
  • Be under the age of 30 at the time of hiring.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work during on July 1 (Canada Day), Aug 1, and August 15 (Acadian Day)
  • Ability to work a variety of shift times and hours including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Able to pass a vulnerable persons check and lift 23 kg safely
  • Be certified for First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Safety, or be willing to receive certification.
  • Previous work experience required in recreation, events, or coordination preferred, but alternative experiences are encouraged to apply.
  • Maintain a professional, cheerful outlook and contribute to the overall success of the Recreation Services team.

Preference may be given to those continuing their career in education, recreation, or community development.
