Here are the final voter participation statistics for the 2024 Municipal and CSAP elections:

District 1: 51.9% of voters have participated (488 voters)

District 2: 46% of voters have participated (371 voters)

District 3: 60.3% of voters have participated (519 voters)

Total voter participation: 52.9% (1,378 voters)

Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) Elections

Two (2) members will be elected to the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) in the electoral district of Clare (which includes the municipalities of Clare and Digby and the Town of Digby). Here is the list of the two candidates:

Ways to Vote

The elections team is committed to ensuring that everyone is able to cast their vote independently. As with previous elections, a combination of internet, telephone, and in-person paper ballot voting options will be available.

Advanced Polling - Internet or Phone Voting

Voters can vote via advanced polling by internet or by phone at any time by using their PIN starting at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Voters will receive a letter in the mail in October indicating their PIN with voting instructions. If you need help with electronic voting, you can call the municipal office at 902-769-2031 or visit us at 1185 Highway 1, Little Brook between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Friday, October 11, until Friday, October 18, 2024, and from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day (Saturday, October 19, 2024). 

To securely vote online, visit clare.isivote.com/. You will need the PIN provided in your voter information letter.

Ordinary Polling Day (Election Day) - Paper Ballot Voting

Voters who do not want to vote via advanced polling options can cast their paper ballots on Election Day (Saturday, October 19, 2024) at the polling location for their district. Your polling location will be specified in the letter you will receive in October, and can be found with the interactive district map above. Voting on election day will take place from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. 

Note: advanced polling voting options (online or phone) will also be available on the Ordinary Polling Day (Election Day). 

Information for Voters

Who can vote in the municipal elections? 

To be eligible to vote in municipal elections, you must meet all of the following conditions:

  • You are 18 years of age or older and a Canadian citizen on the first day of advanced polling (Friday, October 11, 2024),
  • You are ordinarily a resident of Nova Scotia and have been for the six months immediately before the first day of advanced polling (Friday, October 11, 2024) - or in other words, you have been a resident of Nova Scotia since at least April 11, 2024,
  • You are ordinarily a resident of the Municipality of Clare and have been so since at least the first day of advanced polling (Friday, October 11, 2024),
  • You are not otherwise disqualified to vote in the municipal elections.
Who can vote in the CSAP elections? 

You qualify to vote in the CSAP elections if you meet the basic voter qualifications and you are deemed an "Entitled Parent" or "Entitled Person". To be an entitled parent or person, you must meet one of the following conditions: 

  • Your first language learned and still understood is French,
  • You received your primary school instruction in Canada in a French-first-language program,
  • Any of your children have received or are receiving primary or secondary-school instruction in Canada in a French-first-language program (a French immersion program is not considered a French-first-language program).

You need to confirm your status as an entitled parent or and entitled person by requesting a ballot for the election of the CSAP.

Disqualified Persons

You are considered a disqualified person for the purposes of a municipal election if you are any of the following: 

  • The Municipal Returning Officer,
  • A person serving a sentence in a penal or reform institution,
  • A person who has been convicted of bribery under this Act in the six years preceding ordinary polling day. 

Information for Candidates

Requirements

To be a candidate in the municipal or CSAP elections, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of nomination,
  • Be a Canadian citizen,
  • Be a resident of the Municipality of Clare for at least six months preceeding Nomination Day (April 10, 2024), and continue to so reside.

Note: You do not need to be a resident of the district in which you are running, as long as you meet the residency requirement outlined above.

Filing your Nomination Papers

Prospective candidates are asked to file their nomination papers with the Returning Officer, Pam Doucet, by appointment from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on August 29, 30, or September 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, or on Nomination Day, September 10, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
