Candidates for conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP)
Three (3) members shall be elected to the ‘Conseil scolaire acadien provincial’(CSAP) in the electoral district of Clare (which includes the municipalities of Clare and Digby and the Town of Digby). Here are the four (4) candidates:

Voters can vote using the Internet or the phone using their PIN anytime from 8:30am Friday, October 9th until 7:00pm Saturday, October 17th, 2020. (You will receive a letter in October indicating your PIN with voting instructions). If you need assistance with electronic voting, you can call (902) 769-2031 or visit the Municipal Office at 1185 Highway 1, Little Brook between 8:30am and 4:30 pm from October 9th to October 16th (during the week) and from 8:00am to 7:00pm on Election Day (October 17th, 2020).

Information for candidates
Requirements
To be a candidate in either a municipal or school board election, you must be:
- 18 years of age at the time of nomination
- a Canadian citizen
- “ordinarily resident” in Clare for six months preceding Nomination Day, and continue to so reside
You don’t need to live in the polling district that you are running in, as long as you meet the residency requirement of six months in the municipality.

Filing your nomination papers
Prospective candidates are asked to file their nomination papers with Returning Officer Pam Doucet by appointment on August 27, 28, 31 or September 1, 2, 3, 4 and on Nomination Day, September 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Information for voters
Who can vote in municipal elections?
You qualify to vote if you meet all of the following conditions:
- You are 18 years of age or older and a Canadian citizen on the first advance polling day;
- You have been ordinarily resident in Nova Scotia for six months immediately before the first advance polling day;
- You are ordinarily resident in the Municipality of Clare and have been so since immediately before the first advance polling day;
- You are not otherwise disqualified to vote in the Municipal and School Board Elections.
Disqualified persons
You are considered a disqualified person for the purpose of a municipal election if you are:
- the Municipal Returning Officer
- a person serving a sentence in a penal or reform institution
- a person who has been convicted of bribery under this Act in the six years preceding ordinary polling day
Who can vote in CSAP elections?
You qualify to vote for the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) if you meet the basic voter qualifications and you are an “Entitled Parent” or “Entitled Person” who meets one of the following conditions:
- your first language learned and still understood is French
- you received your primary school instruction in Canada in a French-first-language program
- any of your children have received or are receiving primary or secondary-school instruction in Canada in a French-first-language program (a French immersion program is not a French-first-language program)
You must confirm your status as an Entitled Parent or Entitled Person by requesting a ballot for the election of the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial.
Voting options
The Elections team is committed to ensuring that everyone is able to cast their vote independently. As with previous elections, a combination of Internet and telephone voting (e-voting) and paper ballots will be made available to voters for this year’s election. E-voting will be available during the advanced polls and on election day. Paper ballots will be available election day only.
Election Workers Needed
The Municipality of the District of Clare is looking for cleaning/disinfecting of voting locations personnel, Deputy Returning Officers, Poll Clerks as well as Voter Help assistants for the 2020 Municipal and School Board Election.
The Municipality will be using electronic voting. Paper ballots will be available on Election Day only.
All applicants for DROs, poll clerks and assistants must have a good working knowledge of computers.
Previous experience working on Municipal Elections will be considered an asset.
