Municipality of Clare pays tribute to volunteers at annual banquet
Little Brook, NS – April 11, 2019: To celebrate National Volunteer Week, the Municipality of Clare honoured volunteers from 59 local organizations at its annual Volunteer Banquet at the Clare Veterans Centre on Thursday, April 11.
The volunteers, who were nominated by Clare’s charitable organizations for their work in the community, were awarded with a plaque from the Municipality, as well as certificates of recognition from the governments of Canada and Nova Scotia.
“You enrich our community by giving your time, resources and energy,” Warden Ronnie LeBlanc told the crowd of 100 volunteers and guests. “Your kindness and devotion mean a great deal to our community.”
The Municipality also presented Lonnie McNeill with the Volunteer of the Year award. Mr. McNeill volunteers his time by promoting the Clare Special Olympics and offers countless hours of his time to coaching, transporting athletes and helping all those in need. Earlier this month, Mr. McNeill was recognized at the provincial level at an awards ceremony held in Halifax by the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services.
While Mr. McNeill could not attend the banquet, he asked Bobby Comeau, Regional Coordinator for the Special Olympics, to say a few words on his behalf: “I am very fortunate to work with a lot of outstanding volunteers and, certainly with regards to Special Olympics, we are always energized and grateful for the opportunity to be with these amazing people and athletes.”
The Municipality of Clare has held a banquet in honour of its volunteers since 1979.
