Little Brook, NS – May 5, 2022: While committing to support the vitality of the community through investments in health care, housing and immigration, the Municipality of Clare has announced a balanced operating budget of $11,002,412 for 2022-2023.

Once again, there is no increase to the residential tax rate of $1.04 per $100 of assessment or the commercial tax rate of $2.07 per $100 of assessment.

The Clare Health Centre, the Municipality’s doctor recruitment strategy and affordable housing are three key essential public health services that continue to receive financial support from the Municipality of Clare. This year, $886,389 (or 8 percent of total tax dollars) will go towards the Municipality’s commitment to public health services in Clare.

As activities resume with the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, the Municipality will also help fund several local projects aimed to preserve the heritage of the region and to promote community development through its Grants to Organizations program. Furthermore, the Municipality will continue to support such signature events as Festival acadien de Clare and Terra Fondo cycling event. The Congrès mondial acadien Organizing Committee will also receive funding from the Municipality as it continues to plan for the major cultural get-together in 2024. In all, $1,167,323 (or 11 percent of total tax dollars) will go towards community development.

Once more, the Municipality is committed to contributing to the quality of services to the community. It will help finance the Transport de Clare public transportation service. It will also continue offering its municipal services in English and in French to residents, businesses and visitors.

The Welcoming Francophone Communities pilot project Communauté francophone accueillante de Clare is entering its third year. Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the initiative aims to help make the community of Clare more welcoming to all and to ensure that all members of the community have a positive attitude towards new immigrants, including those who wish to settle in French. It was recently announced that the project will be extended by one more year, ending in March 2024.

Clare’s high-speed Internet installation project is slated to wrap up this year. A collaboration between the Municipality of Clare, Mainland Telecom and the Province of Nova Scotia, more than 300 km of fibre optic cable has been laid throughout most of Clare. Approximately 700 subscribers are hooked up thus far to the new service, which includes Internet, television and home phone options.

Property owners in Clare should expect to receive their tax bills in the mail in the upcoming days. The municipal tax deadline for 2022-2023 is June 30, 2022.
