Press Release
(For immediate release)
Little Brook, NS – May 13, 2022: With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions for the first summer in two years, the Municipality of the District of Clare is proud to announce the hiring of four students to help run the summer programming offered by Clare Recreation Services.
The students hired for the summer 2022 special events team are Rachelle LeBlanc (Team Lead), Martine Boudreau (Special Events Coordinator), Nicholas Gaudet (Publicity Specialist) and Julia Deal (Special Events Assistant). This team organizes a series of sporting and cultural activities, as well as established events in Clare such as Canada Day, trivia and Chasse aux Photos contests and the Tintamarre. The team also works closely with partner groups like the Festival Acadien de Clare to offer complementary programming.
Tori Comeau, the Municipality’s Recreation Manager, indicates, “Although our team hosted a series of fantastic virtual programming during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are looking very forward to jumping back into the community with a full schedule of hands-on, face-to-face activities and events in Clare.”
While Clare Recreation strives to offer a variety of summer activities for Clare residents of all ages, a greater focus will be put on activities for school-age children. The Colonie jeunesse acadienne (CJA), Clare’s only weekly day camp, has cancelled all activities for 2022 following news that the funding application through the federal government’s Canada Summer Jobs wage subsidies program was not accepted.
The Municipality of Clare, along with a number of partner organizations and institutions, have teamed up to provide families with childcare alternatives for the summer. Notes Ms. Comeau: “We acknowledge that to help working parents maintain a healthy work-life balance while their children are home for the summer, it is important to provide our youth with fun and enriching day-long activities.”
The Municipality of Clare’s summer activity newsletter will be going out to households in June. Residents are also encouraged to visit the municipal web site (www.clarenovascotia.com), along with Clare Recreation’s Facebook and Instagram pages, for up-to-date summer programming information.
